Katelyn and Spencer's Barn at Bay Horse Inn Wedding

Tell me how you met!: We lived in the same apartment complex in college, so we met very early on during my freshman year at Purdue! The apartment complex was student housing associated with a church in the area and is called Faith West. We met through my roommate Mackenzie (also one of my bridesmaids!), and we were good friends for about a year and a half before we started dating. Fun fact, Spencer's mom Deigh went to the same small private college as my (Kate's) twin aunts, and they had still kept in contact at the time that Spencer and I met!

What is your proposal story?: Spencer and I take a yearly Colorado trip to visit my cousin (& MOH!) Wendy and her husband Wes, and this past year Spencer's parents were able to join us for a few days. I didn't really think anything of it at the time, but I guess it should have been obvious that something was going to happen with his parents there, and in hindsight everyone was acting super weird! During the portion of the trip with Spencer's parents, we stayed at a scenic and very rustic cabin in Bailey. One night, Spencer's mom had the great idea to get up before sunrise the next morning and drive to Breckenridge to see the sunrise at this specific overlook called Sapphire Point. Once again, I didn't think anything of it, but just went along with the plan. We got to Sapphire Point at sunrise and walked around this beautiful trail, but Spencer kept walking ahead of us and I was definitely confused at that point. When we got to the scenic overlook, we posed for a picture, and then Spencer got down on one knee and proposed! I was shocked but obviously ecstatic, especially when my parents showed up! It was the most beautiful proposal I could've ever imagined, and I'm still shocked that Spencer was able to surprise me so completely!

Hobbies you like to do as a couple; What makes you unique in your coupledom?: Spencer and I share a mutual passion for antiquing, traveling, history, and Star Wars. The antiquing, history, and traveling go hand in hand, as we love to discuss and learn about history and experience it through traveling! On another note, we also enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and doing anything outdoors together, especially in Colorado!

Favorite part about planning your wedding?: There have been many challenges with planning a wedding during the current pandemic, but an unexpected blessing of that time has been Spencer and I both working from home. We were able to spend a lot of time together that we normally would not have had, and that has been amazing in the weeks leading up to marriage!

What plans does the future hold for you both?: After the wedding and honeymoon, we are moving to West Lafayette, Indiana, for Kate to finish the last two years of veterinary school. Our long-term plan is to move closer to the north side of Indy, hopefully into a big white farmhouse with plenty of room for cows, goats, and horses! Kate hopes to get a job as a mixed animal veterinarian, while Spencer's goal is to practice environmental law.
